Losing weight can be a challenge for many people. It seems cut and dry – workout regularly, eat smaller portions and eat less calories. But the truth is that weight loss success comes from five many pillars that determine how your body perceives your efforts and what keeps you motivated to reach our ultimate goals.

Sleep

Sleep may seem like it is not important, but the truth is that without sleep the body cannot function as it should. Adults should get at least eight hours of sleep each night. With the world spinning at break-neck speed, it is easy to cut short on this; however good sleep habits should be the primary focus of anyone looking for weight loss success.

Say No to Diet Foods

Everything that you eat or drink has an effect on the body. Prepackaged diet meals, meal replacement shakes and meal bars are all packed with toxins and chemicals that are bad for the body. These ingredients actually destroy your metabolism and make it harder to get in shape and stay in shape. As a rule of thumb, you should be able to each healthy and workout three to four days a week and have no problem maintaining a healthy weight. Skip all processed foods at all costs, there is nothing beneficial in them for your body.

Say Yes to Whole Foods

The best nutrients for your body come from whole foods. These are the food items that are found on the perimeter of the store. Fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses are all considered healthy whole foods. When possible, purchase these items from local farmers. Not only will you support the local economy, you will get foods that have not been processed in any way and are therefore healthier. Sticking to a diet that is filled with whole foods will help you lose weight quickly and effectively.

Variation in Exercise

There is no such thing as a win-all workout. In order for weight loss success you need to combine a variety of exercises that work all areas of your body. Consider yoga or pilates to help build lean muscle and increase cardio vascular strength and Zumba or high-impact cardio boxing for all over fat burn. At least two days per week should be "rest" days so that your muscles have time to recooperate.

Positive Mental Attitude

How you perceive yourself is everything. After a month of working out, if you realize you have only lost two pounds, it is easy to get discouraged and feel that things are not working. This is when a person starts to mentally sabotage themselves which leads to binge eating and other adverse habits that deteriorate any current weight loss success. Always be positive about where you are and where you are going. Take a picture of yourself naked everyday so you can really see the progress that is being made. If you have trouble maintaining a positive mental attitude, then consider posting encouraging notes around your home to keep your overall happiness level on the up and up.
